Inside

Quadra is a converted one room schoolhouse. It is an open floor plan but the space has been partitioned into several focus areas as shown in the photos below. A loft constructed at the back of the room allows space for our administration office while still preserving the entire floor area for the children. We have a fridge, stove, microwave, and dishwasher in our kitchen area. We can heat up lunches on request and sometimes do baking as an activity (the children can take part in measuring and mixing ingredients). Additionally, we have two kid-sized bathrooms.

Each child has their own cubby and coathook in the cloakroom where spare clothes, lunchboxes, and outdoor wear can be stored. Each child also has their own drawer in the art file, where complete artwork can be collected and taken home.

One of our past parents built this fantastic playhouse.

The 'block corner' is a favorite amongst the boys. All sorts of building blocks are available in this area.

The quiet room is used for 'circle time' stories and discussions. After lunch, comfortable mats are laid out on the floor in this room for children who nap.

The big armchair is the focus for 'circle time', discussions, and story time.

We always have a display dedicated to the current theme.

The children get to watch approximately 30 minutes of video after lunch. This is a chance to have some quiet time before resuming more vigorous play.

We have two computers available for use by the older children. We also provide additional educational programming for the kindergarten students in this area. We make the effort to include every child that is ready to participate in structured learning in a variety of preschool or kindergarten activities -- phonics, counting, basic math, learning to write letters and numbers, etc.

Outside

Quadra has one of the best backyards in town! It is large, fully fenced-in, far away from traffic, and has a variety of activities for the children. There are slides, swings, climbing structures, tricycles and scooters, a sandbox, a vegetable garden, tonka toys, and more. Mature trees provide shady retreats from the hot summer sun. The children each have a place to store seasonal outdoor wear so that they are always prepared for outdoor playtime.

Lots of big windows on either side of the building give Quadra plenty of natural daylight year round and a cool cross-breeze on hot summer days.

Swings, adventure playground, and another slide in the backyard.
